Coffs
Harbour
Even though Coffs Harbour is best known for
it's superb beaches and local produce such as bananas, it has
an amazing array of facilities and attractions.
Keen fishermen and water sports enthusiasts will find Coffs
to be the perfect getaway destination. Coffs itself is a blue
ribbon coastal resort located on Australia's holiday
coast 570kilometres north of Sydney and about
350kms south of Brisbane.
The population numbers 20,000 and the town enjoys one
of the most temperate climates on the entire continent, all
year round. The range between the average winter and the
average summer temperatures spans just eight degrees...going
from 18 Celsius to 26 Degrees.
Timber enticed the first permanent settlers to Coffs in
1841 while the harbour provided a means to move produce. At one
point in the mid, up to 450 ships used the harbour each
year. After a shipwreck in 1865 a shipping boycott was
imposed until a lighthouse was built some 23 years later.
Originally the town was called Korff's Harbour
...so named unashamedly by John Korff in 1847. It was
renamed Coffs Harbour in 1861. Fast forward to the new
millenium and Coffs has become a mecca for touristsand simply
one of the most sought after destinations on the NSW North
Coast.
